Therefore, the Chinese government has always been emphasizingEnglish teaching through the civic Education. College English is a required course for eachcollege student during their freshman and sophomore years. And many of them have topass the CET4 in order to get future employers' attention and finally a job offer.The usual procedure of English vocabulary teaching in colleges of China can beroughly divided into two main steps. First，the teacher shows and teaches the students howto pronounce the new words listed in the "New Words and Expressions" column followingthe part of Reading, and then he or she explains the meanings of each word and introducessome collocations of the important words. Students hardly bear a part in this procedure.Naturally, without proper vocabulary learning guidance, few college students can masterthe correct and suitable way to learn English vocabulary. They usually pick up a book inthe bookstore which lists all the words required to pass CET4 or CET6 and startmemorizing them from A to Z. Often they drop it before finishing all the A words. It isquite a common phenomenon, sine it is probably the most boring way of learningvocabulary. Moreover，English teaching in China is always examination-oriented, collegestudents have to pass every final examination at the end of each semester and also CET4,CET6，etc. Both teachers and students have to pay attention to the preparation for theseexaminations, which resulted in the fact that neither of them enjoys the process of Englishvocabulary teaching and learning.
