摘要:Writing has being a weak point in high school Hnglish teaching practice, For a long time, thehigh school students' writing has many problems. Some student can not make correct spelling;some often choose the inappropriate words.
Chapter 1 Introduction
1.1 The background of the present research
Error analysis is based on contrastive analysis development. Contrastive analysis,as a branchof linguistics, emerged in the 1950s, whose basic task is to through two or more languagessynchronic comparison find their similarities and differences in the structure and function .Thelinguistics basis of contrastive analysis is structuralism, and Psychology is based on behaviorism.At the end the 1950s, with the development of the cognitive psychology theory, people need a newtheory to analyze and explain English learners' errors. Therefore, error analysis arises at thehistoric moment. Corder published The significance of learners errors in 1967, this academicresearch on ESL become to a new fielci—EA. Based on the assumption that errors are systematic,Corder further divided errors into three stages, that is,pre-systematic stage; systematic stage andpost-systcmatic stage. Corder published Error Analysis and Interlanguage in 1981, in which heexplained the nature, classifications,sources of errors, and the significance and limitations of EAas an approach to interlanguage studies. After Corder many researchers start to focus on learners'errors. And appeared numerous document during this period (e.g. J.C. Richards 1974; J.Schachter 1974; S.N. Sridhar 1975; J. Schachter & M.Celce-Muricia 1977; J.M.Hendrickson 1978),study on the types and nature of errors. Since 1980s Chinese scholars have begun to introduceEA theory. Professor Gui Shiclum (1985) points out that EA is a common teaching method,through which a teacher can find the individuality and generality of the language errors of students.Other professors set a special chapter in their books to introduce EA and have made commentsabout it. They conclude that second language learning is a creative construction (Wang Churning1990,Zhang Jianzhong and Yang Huizhongl998); Scholars Dai Weidong and Shu Dingfang (1994)have made introductions and comments on the situation of EA.

1.2 The Status of English Writing in Senior Middle Schools
Writing has being a weak point in high school Hnglish teaching practice, l-or a long time, thehigh school students' writing has many problems. Some student can not make correct spelling;some often choose the inappropriate words: some even ignore the pronunciation of the words.Wrong punctuation and bad handwriting make the writing meaningless and unclean.In the northwest minority areas, most of middle school lack professional teacher, part ofteachers misunderstands the teaching method, and many times they use ineffective teachingmethod, they usually follow the traditional method of emphasizing grammar and vocabulary,aiming to help students pass the University Entrance E-L\aminalion. it is a common practice thatEnglish teachers assign compositions at the end of a grammar-based unit as a means to test theirstudents' ability to utilize recently learned the grammar rule lo produce an error-free paperignoring writing errors.Although many empirical articles study how to improve middle school students' writing, theimportance of English composition has not received enough attention. Its merits and the teachingof composition still remains a neglected area in many middle schools in the western minorityareas.
