摘要:城市中学由于师资力量雄厚,教学条件优良,教学硬件达标,学生英语水平逐年提高。而陕西省周至县农村中学生的英语水平普遍较低,不仅听说读写基本能力差,升学考试平均成绩不及城市重点中学学生的一半。究其原因,传统的教学方法难逃其责。周至县的英语教师和研究者们一直都在探求着适合当地英语课堂的教学方法。

Although few students do get higherexamination results, their listening and speaking abilities are quite poor, which reflects"high achievement low ability" and the "dumb English" phenomenon. Traditional teachingmethods can't satisfy students' requirements and Zhouzhi English teaching aims. Soexploring a new teaching method for Zhouzhi Junior Middle Schools is urgent andnecessary. Among different kinds of English teaching methods, as a used-to-be JuniorMiddle School English teacher, Vm really interested in the Natural Approach.


  
  1.2Research Questions研究问题
  Based on Krashen and Terrell's research of the Natural Approach (NA), this empiricalstudy aims to apply the NA into English teaching in Junior Middle School of ZhouzhiCounty and explores the teaching effect of the NA compared with the "New Five Step"method. The study questions are briefly proposed as follows:1. Does the NA have the feasibility in English teaching in Junior Middle School ofZhouzhi County?2. Compared with the "New Five Step” method,whether the NA can promotelearners' comprehensive English proficiency effectively?3. Can NA motivate Junior Middle School students' learning interest,motivation andproduce a good teaching effect?


  
  1.3 Research Significance研究意义
  After Krashen and Terrel identified the Natural Approach, some educational expertsand scholars advocate that Natural Approach can help teachers to solve the problems whichtraditional teaching method can not. However, many cases about Natural Approach areobserved in primary schools and universities instead of Rural Junior middle Schools.Although some researchers have tried to apply the Natural Approach in English teaching inChina, there is scarcely empirical research on the application of the Natural Approach inrural Junior Middle Schools. The application of the Natural Approach in rural JuniorMiddle Schools is still waiting for a long way. With carefully designed and implementedexperimental and a qualitative study,the author aims to find a proper English teachingmethod -Local Natural Approach for Junior Middle School English teaching in ZhouzhiCounty. And she will make an empirical study to test its feasibility and study its effect inChangyang Junior Middle School.On the other hand, it aims to provide English teachers of Zhouzhi County withprofessional knowledge and improve their vocational level. It aims to transfer teachers'conceptual limitation of education and renew teachers’ teaching opinions and cannonadetheir teaching ideas. The research blank is identified with comparatively conclusiveliterature review and detailed analysis to the general circumstances of present JuniorMiddle School English teaching practice in Zhouzhi County.


  
  1.4 Research Methods研究方法
  The research goal is attained from two steps; the experimental study investigates theeffect of the Local Natural Approach on students' written and oral achievements to provideevidence for the feasibility of the Local Natural Approach in Junior Middle School Englishteaching of Zhouzhi County.
