4.1 Common Verb Errors
This study collected a total of 835 English writing samples from students in thesecond semester of the eighth grade of a school in two exams(unit test and mid-termtest).The researcher divided the writing samples collected for each test into threelevels of English writing:high,medium and low.And 100 English writing sampleswere randomly selected from each writing level.Therefore,300 English writingsamples can be obtained for each test,for a total of 600 English writing samples forthe two tests.These 600 English writing samples became the small corpus in thisstudy.According to the verb error classification in the book Analysis of ChineseLearners’English Based on CLEC Corpus written by Yang Huizhong,Gui Shichunand Yang Dafu(2005),this study divides the types of verb errors into 9 categories.They are pattern,set phrase,agreement,finite,non-finite,tense,voice,mood andmodal/auxiliary.According to this verb error classification,the verb errors in 600randomly selected English writing samples were identified.Finally,all the verb errortypes in 600 writing samples and the corresponding frequency distribution of eachverb error type were counted with the help of AntConc retrieval software and Excelsoftware.
CHAPTER FIVE CONCLUSIONS
5.1 Major Findings
Based on interlanguage theory,transfer theory,contrastive analysis and erroranalysis theory,this research analyzes the verb errors in 600 English writing samplesrandomly selected according to the classification and coding rules of verb errors in thebook Analysis of Chinese Learners’English Based on CLEC Corpus.After finishingthe self-built small corpus,the researcher counts the number and frequency of eachtype of verb errors through AntConc retrieval software and Excel software.And thenwith the help of SPSS 28.0 to explore the differences in verb errors in English writingamong the three writing levels.The main findings of this study are as follows.
First,in the 600 English writing samples collected in this study,there are a totalof 1405 verb errors and a total of 9 categories of verb errors.They are pattern,setphrase,agreement,finite,non-finite,tense,voice,mood,and modal.Among them,there are 340 set phrase errors,accounting for 24.2%of all verb errors,ranking first.The second one is non-finite errors,with 338,accounting for 24.06%.And thenfollowed by modal(with 188,accounting for 13.38%),tense(with 127,accounting for9.04%),mood(with 115,accounting for 8.19%),pattern(with 103,accounting for7.33%),agreement(with 100,accounting for 7.12%),finite(with 67,accounting for4.77%)and voice(with 27,accounting for 1.92%).From these data,it can beconcluded that the students in this study are relatively weak in the use of set phraseand non-finite.本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
