4.1 The distributive characteristics of the themes in the textbooks
In this section, the distributive characteristics of the themes are to be described under the guidance of the English Curriculum Standards for General High School (2017 edition revised in 2020). The general information of the themes in the textbooks is shown in Table 4.1.

5.1 Major findings of the study
The purpose of the study is to illustrate the distributive characteristics of the themes and further explore the characteristics of the students’ interest in the themes in terms of different variables. The analysis brings about some main findings as follows:
In the first place, the five textbooks of senior high school English textbooks contain a total of 30 themes, covering three thematic contexts, namely “Man and Society”, “Man and Oneself” and “Man and Nature”. Among the three thematic contexts, “Man and Society” contains two thematic groups and involves 15 themes, accounting for 50%, the 15 themes includes B1U5 “A Lesson in a Lab”, B1U6 “The Internet and Telecommunications”, B2U3 “Music”, B2U4 “Fine Arts-Western, Chinese and Pop Arts”, B2U5 “Newspapers and Magazines”, B2U6 “Films and TV Programs”, B3U5 “Great People and Great Inventions in Ancient China”, B3U6 “Old and New”, B4U2 “Traffic Jam”, B4U3 “Body Languages and Non-verbal communication”, B4U4 “Great Scientists”, B5U1 “British and American English”, B5U3 “Adventure in Literature and the Cinema”, B5U4 “Carnival”, B5U5 “The Great Sports Personality”; “Man and Oneself” contains four thematic groups and involves eight themes, the percentage is 27%, the eight themes are B1U1 “My First Day at Senior High”, B1U2 “My New Teachers”, B1U3 “My First Ride on a Train”, B1U4 “A Social Survey-My Neighborhood”, B2U1 “ Our Body and Healthy Habits”, B2U2 “No Drugs”, B4U1 “Life in the Future”, B5U2 “A Job Worth Doing”; “Man and Nature” contains four thematic groups and involves seven themes, the proportion is 23%, the seven themes are B3U1 “Europe”, B3U2 “Developing and Developed Countries”, B3U3 “The Violence of Nature”, B3U4 “Sandstorms in Asia”, B4U5 “A Trip Along the Three Gorges”, B4U6 “Unexplained Mysterious of the Natural World”, B5U6 “Animals in Danger”. Therefore, it can be concluded that the distribution of themes in the senior high school English textbooks of the FLTRP edition is not balanced. The theme of “Man and Society” accounts for the largest proportion, the proportion is half of the total, and the percentage of “Man and Oneself” and “Man and Nature” is roughly the same.
