Chapter Four Subtitle Translation Strategies of 2 Broke Girls 

The Skopos theory derived from behavioral theory to some extent and the film subtitles is also a behavioral action with purpose, and the purpose of the film works is more obvious and intense. Therefore, we can safely combine the Skopos theory with the  study  of  subtitle  translation  (Zhang  Qinghong,  2009:75).  Different  types  and content  of  the  film  has  different  purpose  to  achieve.  The  success  of  an  audiovisual work in the international market is not only depends on the content and promotional strategies, but also relies on a good subtitle translation. In order to be popular in the audience,  it  is  necessary  to  meet  the  requirements  of  the  audience  and  expectations (Hua  Shaojun,  2007:68).  Moreover,  the  audience’s  request  and  expectation  is  an important part of the purposes of subtitle translation. Thus, apply the Skopos theory in subtitle can guarantee the realization of these purposes. In this chapter, the author will discuss the guidance role of the Skopos theory in the case study of 2 Broke Girls. 

4.1 A Brief Introduction of 2 Broke Girls 
American sitcom 2 Broke Girls is one of the most popular English TV series in recent years which has achieved great success in America as well as in China. 2 Broke Girls  is  the  Columbia  Broadcasting  System  (CBS)  sitcom  on  September  9,  2011 premiere. Together to create drama by Michael Patrick King and Whitney Cummings Gan,  production  company  Warner  Bros.  Television.  The  play  is  set  in  place  is Brooklyn,  New  York  City,  tells  the  story  of  two  completely  different  identities background  story  of  urban  girls.  With  its  humorous  dialogue  and  distinctive personalities won the soaring popularity.
