2.1.1 Studies at Home

Eco-translatology is an intermediate subject by combining ecology and translation studies, that is, the exploration and study of translation from the perspective of ecology. And  eco-translatology  fills  up  the  ecological  gap  in  the  field  of  translation.  Since  this translation  theory  is  the  original  translation  theory  of  China,  we  should  pay  more attention to and exert greater efforts to develop and improve it into a comprehensive and systematic  translation  theory,  which  can  guide  translators  to  carry  out  translation activities more effectively, thus it can improve the research value and practical value of eco-translatology.

2.2 Previous Studies on Howard Goldblatt’s Translations

With  the  continuous  strengthening  of  globalization,  cultural  exchanges  between countries  become  increasingly  frequent,  and  communication  between  different languages, especially literary communication, requires excellent literary translators most. Goldblatt  is  an  important  factor  for  our  modern  excellent  literature  to  go  to  the  world and he did a lot for the spread of Chinese literature. And as one of the most important translators  of  Chinese-English  translation  of  Chinese  modern  and  contemporary literature, Goldblatt has his own unique views on translation thoughts, translation style and translation practice.

This part is an overview of Goldblatt‟s translations and his thoughts on translation. First of all, this paper introduces the domestic research on Goldblatt‟s translation works and  views  on  translation.  Then,  the  review  of  Goldblatt‟s  related  research  abroad  is presented. 

2.2.1 Studies at Home

Howard Goldblatt was born in 1939. At first, he did not do well in school, but he took a keen interest in literature and translation.  He worked hard to learn Chinese and obtained  a  doctor‟s  degree  in  Chinese  literature.  Howard  Goldblatt  is  an  important translator  for  Chinese  literature,  and  he  has  translated  about  fifty  works  for  many famous Chinese writers. They are Mo Yan, Xue Mo, Xiao Hong and so on(Jia Yanqin, 2012). These works can be read by the readers from all over the world. Some works are not very famous in China, but the translating versions by Goldblatt attracted many eyes.
