Chapter One Task Description

1.1 Task Background

English,as one of the lingua franca in many parts of the world,is being widelyused in a variety fields.From a big-picture perspective,many key areas,such as IT,international trade,etc.,are closely related to the use of English.While from amicro-level perspective，English is essential for a person’s academic development aswell as daily communication.Therefore an increasingly number of parents haverecognized the importance of English acquisition of their kids.However,manyChinese parents with relatively weak English elementary knowledge have blind spotsand misunderstandings about helping their children learn English.

Mr.Jing,the client of this interpreting task,is one of those parents who haveencountered difficulties in helping their children with English acquisition.He hassubscribed a series of online courses provided by an international education platformCambly.The series of courses are taught online and in real time by experiencedpreschool educators from Australia,Ireland,and New Zealand,providing one-to-oneparenting and early childhood English acquisition guidance for parents who haveordered the courses.The tutors are currently working in Vietnam and Cambodia asearly childhood teachers,and they all have TEFL(Teaching English as a ForeignLanguage)or TESOL(Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).

1.2 Task Requirements

Aiming at fully deliver the tutors’instruction of young children raising andEnglish acquisition,there are relatively high requirements for the interpreter in thistask.Especially when the client has a certain level of English knowledge,it puts evenhigher demands on the interpreter to get trusted.

First of all,the accuracy and fluency of the translation must be ensured in thetask.Accuracy,or faithfulness,is seen as one of the primary translation principles bya number of prominent translators including Lu(Jiang,2020:28)，Yan(Wu,2021:50),etc.To achieve this target,the interpreter must first thoroughly understand thecontent that the speakers deliver,which requires the interpreter play all the powers ofconcentration powers to listen to the source language,and then transform the contentinformation into the target language.At the same time to provide better customerexperience,fluency is another element of great importance,which requires proper andunderstandable language and moderate speech rate in a very limited period of time toprocess information.In summary,accuracy and fluency play an essential role in thequality of the course delivery,and require a high performance of the interpreter on theability to understand the source language,information processing,and target languagedelivery.

The second requirement of this task is the background knowledge of childrenraising and education,especially the pre-school period education.Considering thespeakers of the courses has young children teaching related education background,and the theme of the courses,although the contents are more practical rather thanacademic,it is inevitable to involve education relating knowledge and certain terms.
