4.1 Introduction to the Three Films and the TranslationalEco-environment

My People,My Country,My People,My Homeland and My Country,My Parents havepioneered the modern“Main Melody”films in China.Producers have made extremely boldattempts in story plots,narration,and film roles.The films talk about stories related to historyand the development in China,containing a miscellany of culture-loaded terms which deserveto be studied.

4.1.1 Introduction to the Films

The films,My People,My Country,My People,My Homeland and My Country,MyParents,are consisted of small stories which happen in China.Therefore,a lot ofculture-loaded terms need to be translated properly.Translators should conduct adaptivetransformations in order to convey the cultural connotations of the culture-loaded terms in thefilm.

My People,My Country tells the story of ordinary people’s close relationship with theircountry,China,during the 70 years since the founding of People’s Republic of China.Itincludes 7 stories,from the flag-raising ceremony in 1949 to the military paradecommemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance against Japan.My People,My Homeland narrates 5 stories of people from different areas and theirconnection to their hometowns.My Country,My Parents follows four stories in four periods,such as the story of troops protecting the masses during the War and the story of pursuing dreams in the future.The diversified plot setting makes the films special.

5.1 Findings of the Study

Through the investigation on the culture-loaded terms in the subtitles,the followingconclusions can be drawn from the research.

From the perspective of translational eco-environment,the series of the films deserve tobe translated to promote the spread of Chinese culture since a wide range of culture-boundterms are embodied.Subtitling Chinese films is critical in the aspects of politics,economy,and culture.However,subtitling the films also poses great difficulties for translators,whomust adapt and select in the context.

Based on the concept of three-dimensional transformations,five categories ofculture-loaded terms in the three films have been analyzed and the translation methods havebeen summarized.
