摘要:As the diversity of the field of English education in the high vocational college,students require teacher education rather than a mere training approach. The conceptof teacher training is based on the assumption of clearly predefined competences andskills that student teachers need to develop in order to deal with predictable problemsand requirements.

2. Literature Review


2.1Description of Learner Autonomy
English is the most widely used language in the world. Everyone knows Englisheducation in vocational colleges is really valuable and helpful, but nobody can leamevery details from school. A teacher,no matter how much he knows, cannot teach hisstudents everything they want to know. The teacher's duty is to tell his students howto learn and how to think,so much more is to be learned outside by studentsthemselves. (Hedge,2001)
At the initial stage,the words we leam are ones for daily life. These wordsappear very often, and suitable for speaking and writing. We must bear these words inmind. Students keep leaning and forgetting due to the lack of effective way ofmemorizing words, which increased the difficulty for the writing. Since forgetting isinevitable, students should be encouraged to use the words they have learned in theirpractices of speaking and writing, and given methods of consolidating vocabulary 80that their memory is guaranteed. Students from vocational colleges take about twoEnglish lessons each week. Because most students are poor at spoken English andpoorly prepared before class,they seldom spoke English in the class and had theirlessons passively, not actively. When they were asked questions,they seldom raisedhands and just kept silent even if they knew the answers. Though the students havelearned English since they were Grade 1 students in the primary school, they cannotspeak English very fluently. When they were asked to write a short passage of at least70 words,they made a lot of mistakes in grammar or on spelling. Sometimes theymade the same mistakes again and again. So it's quite difficult for students to leamEnglish well and it's also quite difficult for us teachers to teach English in vocationalcolleges. It is said by Confucius that one's own initiatives is the most importantelements for students who are trying to leam. As learning should be a process that oneexplores and understands independently, however, now more importance is putting onthe emphasis thai the teacher's role is the only origin of knowledge, and the authority and judge in the process of students' learning. In China, students areteacher-dependent to a large extent and lack of the ability to implement learning withtheir own initiative. For a large part of the students, they seem to can learn Englishonly in classrooms.
Over the last two decades,learner autonomy has been fashionable in education offoreign languages especially those are in relation to lifelong learning skills. Simplyspeaking, autonomous learning means “the capacity to think, leam and behaveautonomously is often claimed as an outcome for students in higher education,,.However,the capacity to think, eam and behave autonomously is not simply oneoutcome among others. It is central to all forms of university education: witness theimportant claim that any university worth its name is, and should always be, a place offreedom of thought and speech.
