II. Literature Review
2.1 An Overview of B-SLIM
The study of English grammar teaching has a long
history. Chomsky, a famous linguist, has published many of his famous works in grammar. The grammar studies of Chomsky are the foundation of English grammar teaching research. In resent years, many studies of English grammar teaching have been published in China. Firstly, in the study of Zhang Cuixia [1], she presents her opinions about how to change the current English grammar-teaching model. The happy classroom atmosphere, multimedia teaching and the proper quantity of grammar items should be considering in the grammar lesson [1]. Secondly, Xu Long puts forward that both induction and deduction are need to use in the grammar lesson according to the age of students, the English level of students and the characteristics of grammatical items in his study. Meanwhile, the English grammar teaching should be taught with communication grammar course [2]. Finally, Li Fengmei suggests that grammar teaching should take the students as the main body and emphasize the cultivation of the students’ consciousness of grammar [3]. Overall, most studies of English grammar teaching did not put forward a complete and practical grammar teaching method. As we know, a good teaching method is the key for improving the quality of teaching. At present, as a successful and popular teaching model, B-SLIM is introduced into China. Abroad, there are many countries promoting and practicing B-SLIM in English teaching, such as Canada, Japan, Korea, France, Brazil, and Thailand and so on. Most of them have achieved excellent results. In China, Guangxi province has introduced it into junior middle school and some vocational schools in 2004. The majority of them have improved the level of English teaching. The effect of English teaching is positive. Hence, more and more schools introduce this model into their English teaching for improving teaching level. This proves that the model of B-SLIM is a suitable method for English grammar teaching improvement in senior high school.
2.2 The Introduction of B-SLIM
B-SLIM are known as Bilash’s Success-based Language Instruction Model, presented by Olenka Bilash,a professor at the University of Alberta. It is a successful language-teaching model. There are three major theoretical underpinnings to support this model. They are Cognitive Science, Constructivism and Developmentalism. There are five steps in B-SLIM. They are planning and preparation, comprehensible input, intake (getting it, using it), output, assessment and evaluation. In the whole process of teaching and learning, teacher is the leader and student is the main body. B-SLIM model advocates self-directed learning. The teacher should provide opportunities and direction for students in each stage of language learning through the frame learning. Teacher helps them to build confidence, to form the self-directed method and then to obtain the success of language learning [4].With the theoretical support, the basic idea of B-SLIM is to develop the learning ability of student and to help them set the goal of learning. Each steps of learning is from easy steps to difficult ones. Therefore, those students can develop their abilities and knowledge under a progressiv
