inese scholars have made their research into the news headlinestranslation area. Since readers or audiences decide to read the news or not by skimming throughthe news headlines, the translation of the headlines becomes extremely important when thetranslator is doing some news translation.The translation of news has its own aims and principles, because news has its distinctfeatures, and there are some linguistic differences and cultural barriers. Therefore, there must besome particular ways used to make sure an efficient communication with the target readers oraudiences. The functional approach is appropriate to be the leading theory of the translation ofthis genre, because it stresses on communication effect and highlights the role of readers oraudiences.Before contacting with the essence of translating news headlines from the perspective ofSkopostheorie, the author reviewed some prior studies about soft news headlines translationboth at home and abroad in this area. Compared with the traditional idea of equivalence and avital complement to the translation theories, Skopostheorie as a breakthrough has opened up anew perspective to translation studies. After that, the author made a full study of some basicrules on Vermeer’s translation theory. It turned out that Skopostheorie can be ideally applied topractical news headlines translation.
Since this thesis is far from satisfied because of its restrictions on the study, as for thefuture study, there is much space for translation research. Although the research does not relateto, it has great research value. So lots of related study can be researched in the future. Theauthor’s intention in this thesis is in favor of arousing more readers’ or audiences’ interest anddrawing their attention to the news headlines translation. To satisfy more potential readers oraudiences and enlarge their knowledge, the quality of the news headlines translation must betaken into serious consideration. So based on a deeper involvement in the future, a betterunderstanding can be achieved in the future. Therefore, it is high time for translators try theirbest to improve the quality of news headlines translation. Meanwhile, a deeper study oftranslating both Chinese and English news headlines should be involved.In a word, Skopostheorie will be constantly developed and improved in the future likeother living theories. In the following days, some deeper studies and systematical analysis onthe news headlines translation strategies should be laid a great importance. ApplyingSkopostheorie to the further research on the other genres in news headlines translation or sometranslational actions is beyond all doubt. It is expected this basic study of news headlinestranslation can help other people to do more research in this specific area and explore moreeffective methods. Furthermore, the translation scholars, translators and some potentialresearchers are welcomed to dig into translating news headlines from the perspective ofdifferent theories or ways.
