本文采用的方法复制到中文翻译风格的上帝的父亲的美国作家马里奥-普佐。周翰林的中文翻译出版的新闻,这是林阴其中一位最著名的出版社、无法再现原作的风格。本研究旨在通过案例分析,强调译者要提高文体意识,强化文体鉴赏力,更好的再现原著风格,提髙翻译质量。


Chapter 1 Introduction引言


1.1 Aim and Significance of this Study研究的目标和意义

This phenomenallysuccessflil novel saw its first Chinese translation in 1973 by Hong Kong NantianPublishing Company. In total, there are seven versions of Chinese translation of TheGodfather. However, back in 1995, Yilin Press held the exclusive copyright of thesimplified Chinese edition of the classic, translated by Zhou Hanlin, which means thatthe other versions are pirated. In 2007, Yilin Press republished The Godfathertranslated by Zhou, yet it has attracted widespread criticism among Chinese readerswho lamented on its poor translation at amazon.com.cn、 China's biggest onlinebookstore.https://www.51lunwen.org/translation/  Meanwhile, previous studies on his translation have also confirmed thedissonance felt from Chinese readers.Then we cannot help asking the question why Zhou's translation fails to winChinese readers, especially the Chinese fan base of Puzo's original work? This thesistries to answer this question from a viewpoint of style reproduction. Among thevarious definitions of "style", it is the language choices that are inseparable from thecontent. One of the reasons for the popularity of The Godfather lies in its style, itschoice of language at different levels, from lexical level to figures of speech.Therefore, a decent translation hinges on whether the style of the source text isreproduced in the target text, faithfully and elegantly.This study aims to discover the style of The Godfather, to present the stylisticfeatures of Zhou's Chinese translation, and to analyze its style reproduction. Based onthis study, we can reach a conclusion that the inability to reproduce the original stylemay serve as one of the answers to the unpopularity of the translated work.Applying stylistics to translation studies is of great significance. Shen Dan'swork Literary Stylistics and Fictional Translations points out that linguistics alone isunable to provide solutions to all the problems of literary translation. She maintainsthat literary stylistics can play a constructive role in translation studies (Shen, 1995).Instead of being trapped in impressionistic descriptions of a translated work, stylisticsat different linguistic levels helps to analyze the thematic meaning and appreciate theaesthetic value of the text, original and translated. Style reproduction of the originaltext in the translation requires the translator to be sensitive to the linguistic choices byits author, and at the same time demands that the translator should be capable ofreproducing the style in the target language. With the awareness of style reproduction,translators should try their best to represent the original style, and therefore achievethe equivalence of aesthetic value of the original work in which the style is inherent.
