2.1 Studies on the Two Novels at Home and Abroad

Neta Gordon has explored time structure and healing aesthetic in the paper entitledTime Structures and the Healing Aesthetic of Joseph Boyden’s Three Day Road.Netadeems Boyden’s“dialectical approach to time structuring offering a challenge to theethics of contemporary historical fiction”(134).Boyden’s healing aesthetic of hiscomplex story also makes Aboriginal culture and history important in human history.

2.2 Studies on Trauma Theory at Home and Abroad

Research on trauma theory in China mainly focuses on the introduction andinterpretation of the theory,as well as the analysis of texts and cultural phenomena.Themes are generally trauma memory,trauma narrative,cultural trauma,trauma witness,and ethical issues.Trauma theory was first introduced into the field of ChineseHumanities and Social Sciences in 1999,and the publication of Traumatic Memory byZhang Zhiyang marked the beginning of trauma studies in China.Zhang analyzedtraumatic memory as a phenomenology.

In 2011,Tao Dongfeng published his paper“Literature and Art and Memory”Research Paradigm and Critical Practice.He pointed out that traumatic memory wasclosely related to collective memory and cultural trauma.In September of the same year,Tao Dongfeng again introduced the concept of cultural memory in his article“CulturalTrauma and Witness Literature”.He summed up two existing forms of traumaticmemory——cultural trauma and collective trauma.It is worth noting that from 2011until today,many graduate students have applied trauma theory to interpret literary texts,especially many students who have studied A Thousand Splendid Suns with traumatheory.
