Because of her passion for her own national culture and history, Alice Walker writes about the patchwork process in many of her works. Women writers tend to focus more on what voices they use and how they speak, and whether those voices are told in public, exaggerated narratives or in private forms such as letters, diaries or internal monologues. At the same time, Walker’s plot is decidedly more freewheeling, and the black son, who returned from Vietnam, could carry his footlocker and a duffel bag with him and hide the bomb in it is decidedly unintuitive and simplistic. The logical contradiction, however, is Walker’s apparent rebellion against realism. The images reflected in surrealistic literary sentences are mostly broken, unreal and illogical.
