be demonstrated in section 2.5.2.2 Definition of English ditransitive construction Goldberg(1995:p.152) gave a definiton of English ditransitive construction: English ditransitive construction is strictly associated with the following arguments, agent, patient and recipient. English ditransitive construction regularly means that the agent argument conducts an action to cause the transfer of an object to a recipient. She also holds that the typical meaning of such act is successful transfer. For example: [1] Tom gave his friend a book. It is obvious to see that the meaning of sentence [1] is that the agent Tom has implemented an action of giving to the cause of the transfer of the book to the recipient his friend. The possession right of the books has been changed from the agent to the recipient. The action of “transfer” is pervasive, for instance, kicking football, playing badminton. However, most of the transferring actions we may experience everyday are totally ignored by us. It is not strange to say that in human’s various experiences, “transfer” is the basic one.

2.2 Studies of English Ditransitive Construction
English Ditransitive Construction is a highly-frequent used structure with its unique semantic and structural characteristics, which attracts different linguistic schools, such as structuralism, generative grammar and cognitive grammar to explain and study it in detail. This chapter lists the structural and transformational accounts of English Ditransitive Construction. In general, we can conclude that it is the most comprehensive and convincing from the cognitive perspective. The research object of Structural linguistics is language system itself. Structural linguists regard language as a closed system and they employ the language ontology approach. Clause is not only formed by several lecical items but also a hierarchy structure.They believe that language units can not be isolated with each other. Instead, they are mutually interdependent. The consequences of language units is decisively significant. For example: [13] The girl beats the dog. In [13], not all the five words have the same close relation. In the eye of structural linguists(Fries,1952), the and girl is much closer than girl and beats. It is because that the girl constitute a noun phrase. However, girl beats is not a noun phrase. Structuralism put emphasis on the disintegration of the whole English ditransitive construction and the structural relationship between the two nouns. The sentence meaning is decided
