The Research of Japanese Apology Expression

Abstract

Apology is a common language behavior that being frequently used as well asgratitude, request and greeting. It is closely related with people’s daily life and is akind of important social language phenomenon. Everyone can not live alone. He willalways do wrong things, bringing trouble to others, and even causingmisunderstanding and contradictions while communicating with other people. Andthat, apology becomes an indispensable behavior. Apology is a language expressionform that often used in order to make up for their fault, maintaining mutual facial andharmonious interpersonal relationship, thus communicating better. Japanese apologyexpression is not only used for apologize, but also used on occasions of thanks, etc.So it brings the beginners in Japanese much confuses.This paper studied Japanese apology expression from the angle of ChineseJapanese learners. It consists of five parts. The first part described the researchpurpose and significance. Apology is a kind of good communication mode while aperson doing wrong or bringing trouble to others. So correct apology expression hasimportant social value. However, what role does it has? Why it is used so frequently?How could it be used more appropriately? These are all important learning programs.The second part introduced the advanced research about apologies in advance,expressing the research results, finding the deficiencies and putting forward thisresearch’s viewpoint. The third part described the research methods, introducing thestandard of novels. The textbooks were selected from the more commonly used indomestic. While the novels were selected from the modern high reputation, the morecharacter relationship, the background with daily life in Japan. The fourth partresearched the Japanese apology expression from various aspects. Firstly explainedthe meaning of apology expression, and then investigating several sets of Japanesetextbooks in China. Due to the limitation of the textbooks, selected apologyexpression examples from several modern novels in Japan as well. Then discussedthe factors and its cultural background. Finally summed up the above contents, andputting forward the future research topic.Through the analysis of Japanese apology expression, the following points weremade clear. The apology expression has a high utilization rate in Japan. It is to beused not only for apologize, but also used on occasions of greeting, etc. It is onlyused as a polite language here. Because of the wide usage scale, many people thinkJapanese apology is overmuch, but not in the form of their heart. However, we haveknown that every country has its own apology expression way indeed throughanalysis. Japanese apology expression often uses the fixed expressions. And differentapology expression is used in different situations. Japanese firstly choose the strategyof "direct to admit a mistake" and avoiding explaining things through, etc. whenselecting the apology strategies.
