摘要:本文是一篇商务英语翻译论文,到目前为止,整个翻译实践和案例分析都是从三个元功能的角度来探讨翻译。

本文通过完成翻译任务,译者不仅获得了经验,而且意识到了自己的不足。结语部分主要探讨了翻译任务的含义和局限性,以期提醒译者不断提高自己的专业水平,弥补在今后的翻译实践中存在的不足。

Chapter One Introduction


1.1 Background and Objectives of the Translation Project

Education serves as an essential factor in the development and innovation of science andtechnology, and China attaches great importance to the school. When carry out educationreforms, China also borrows some of the educational theories and methods from westerncountries as reference.Through a review of relevant domestic literature, it is found that Chinesescholars often criticize “utilitarian education” as the drawback of education, which causespeople's misunderstanding of British utilitarian education in the 19th century (Zhu & Tang,2007; Xiao, 2015). The translation practice of the book Education will help domestic readersunderstand the application of utilitarianism into education more objectively. The history ofMill's claims about education still seems to be instructive for the further advancement ofmodern education reform. In this translation practice, the translation quality of the source textdirectly affects people's understanding of Utilitarianism, so it is necessary for the translator toaccurately interpret the source text to guarantee an accurate and faithful target text.

1.2 Introduction to the Source Text

The source text Education, which discusses education matters from the perspective ofassociation psychology, is written by James Mill for Britain encyclopedia. The source textconsists of an introduction and four sections. The introduction serves as a guidance for thedifferent questions which the four parts involved. Section One explains the human mind anddraws its importance in education.After providing a general sketch of the human mind, SectionTwo keeps on elaborating that the four qualities of mind, namely “intelligence,” “temperance,”“justice,” “generosity,” could be endowed through education. Section Three explains that thereis no determining factor at the end of the training. Finally, Section Four shows that educationcan work through both the physical and moral kind. The translator chose Sections One to Four as her source text, leaving only the part about moral kind untranslated.

As the title Education implies, it contains a large amount of specialized knowledge.Through the cohesive and concise exposition, Mill aims at pursuing personal and other's“happiness,” which enriches the utilitarianism educational concept and enlightens us deeply.Therefore, this book has a significant influence on the British educational reform anddevelopment of the time.

Chapter Two Translation Process Description


2.1 Preparation Section

A sound preparation before the translation lays an essential foundation for a goodtranslation. Before starting the translation, the translator made a detailed timetable and thenendeavored to execute the project according to it. Given that any emergency might happenduring the process, some extra time has been reserved for making sure the project will beaccomplished punctually.
