In recentyears, the environment for China’s investment in the Indian Ocean island countries has beengenerally stable with high-level exchanges, the construction of free trade zones hasprogressed smoothly, and the cooperation has achieved remarkable results (Meng, 2019).Under the background of the Belt and Road Initiative, the cooperation between the two sideshas a new connotation and the common interests have been further expanded.

Among them, cultural exchange occupies an important position. Cultural communicationis not only the bridge that connects foreign countries and China, but also the inner demand topromote the globalization and diversity of culture. Global culture communication bringspeople closer and pushes global harmony forward. Literature is not only the symbol andembodiment of national culture, but also the most precious wealth of national culture. Goodliterature can broaden people’s horizon, stimulate people’s imagination and enrich people’sspiritual world. Excellent foreign literature can “guide readers into different spaces anddifferent cultural fields, thus refreshing readers’ cognitive world and allowing readers toobtain new aesthetic experiences” (Zhou, 2008). Therefore, the study on Indian Oceancountries boasts a special value and significance both politically and culturally, boththeoretically and practically. Yet there are few documents and materials on Indian Oceanisland countries, much less the Chinese versions.
