Mossop[19]  describes  14  parameters  in  total,  which  are  accuracy,  completeness,  logic, facts,  smoothness,  tailoring,  sub-language,  idiom,  mechanics,  layout,  typography, organization, client specifications, and employer policies. According to Mossop, accuracy and completeness  are  subject  to  problems  of  meaning  transfer;  logic  and  facts  are  subject  to problems of content; smoothness, tailoring, sub-language, idiom, and mechanics are subject to problems of language and style; layout, typography, and organization are subject to problems with  the  visual  and  organizational  aspects  of  the  text;  client  specifications  and  employer policies are subject to problems related to specifications and policies. Mossop also says that consistency could be treated as a fifteenth parameter, but he hasn’t done so because he thinks consistency issues are all related to other parameters, such as consistency in terminology, in register, in layout, etc. 

Unless  there  are  special  requirements  about  translations  from  agencies  or  customers, accuracy  is  the  most  important  parameter  in  translation  and  revision.  A  translation  should transfer the message of the source text. In order to achieve the goal of accuracy, one should firstly understand the source text correctly, and secondly, make sure that that understanding is expressed  correctly  in  translation.  It  needs  both  excellent  language  skills  and  carefulness  to achieve  accuracy.  Low  proficiency  in  English  and  carelessness  may  result  in misunderstanding.  Inaccuracy  often  arises  from  incorrect  understanding  of  the  source  text. However,  inaccuracy  can  also  arise  when  the  source  text  has  been  correctly  understood because  the  expression  may  be  incorrect  or  ambiguous.  One  way  for  revisers  to  ensure accuracy is to read the translation first, and then read the source text. It needs to be mentioned that an accurate translation does not have to be a close translation, and does not mean to use the  words  and  sentence  structures  as  close  as  possible  to  those  of  the  source  text.  Closely imitating the source text may result in awkward sentences. Instead, a reviser should make the translation as accurate as necessary given the use and type of the text, and avoid paying over attention to accuracy.
