摘要：本文是一篇英语文学论文，笔者认为在一个文化同化和东方化的时代，隋仙远远站在公众面前，自豪地宣称自己是一个中国人，写下了一个充满芬芳的未来世界的故事，在这个世界里，不同的文化融合在一起，同时保留着自己的立常特色。尽管作者在《新智慧》中反对完全孤立和完全同化，但隋善远提出了大同愿景，即不同文化达到混合状态，从而在“鲍子的美国化”中保持和谐。在大同的世界里，不同民族的文化并不分为所谓的优胜劣汰。隋善远不仅写中国人的故事，还将深厚的中国文化“融入”其中。

2.2 Two Aspects of Harmony beyond Assimilation

“Harmony beyond Assimilation” has its profound Chinese cultural origin. In the “Zheng Yu” of Guo Yu5, Shi Bo has made a comment on this concept when he is making a conversation with Zheng Henggong6:

The unification of the diversity can generate all things while the single similarity hinders development. Harmonizing and balancing different things is called the unification of the diversity, so it can enrich development and bring all things into unity; on the other hand, if the same things are simply added together, it is done after being exhausted. (Chen Tongsheng 304)

It is thus clear that “harmony” brings coordination between different things as well as development. Moreover, Shi Bo takes the “harmonization of six intonations so as to please the ear” (Chen Tongsheng 304) as an example to illustrate the lack of attraction of a single intonation. He also proposes that the King should make his people of all states “keep harmony and be happy with each other as if of one family” (Chen Tongsheng 304). In this way, “the perfection of harmony is reached” (Chen Tongsheng 304). As early as the Spring and Autumn Period, “Harmony beyond Assimilation” has its own solid ideological foundation.

Later, Fei Xiaotong borrowed the concept of “Harmony beyond Assimilation”7 from ancient Chinese culture to be the representation as well as the core of his “Recognizing the beauty of one’s own and appreciating the beauty of others; accepting the cultures of each other as beauty, and thus stepping into a world of Datong”.
