The reasonable interpretation of this form can only be the uncertainty of our life in a consumer society. This scene always reminds audience of the compass in the R 'n' R @ New Long March, it also achieve the same effect. A funny thing is the author of this films with purpose gives his hero huge pennies in this scene. It's a pastiche from the film of Steven Chow in Hong Kong. If there is anything sense here, it maybe an offence to the tradition Chinese idea on sex.
Like the Trio, this film also makes fun of mass media ironically. In the scene of the hero's falling down, some Chinese appreared in the screen: It's reported by newspaper, it's reported by the radio, it's reported by the web sites… In fact, none of these mass media may report any of these scenes in the film at all.
III. The Absence of Chinese independent movie
In at most country, there is some other visual media subvert the society stands and norms. Among them the most influential is so-called independent films. It's doubtful to say there is no independent film in China. Anyhow their influence on public is too weak and narrow. The result of this situation is the flash films have to take the responsibility of independent film. Film production industry is the only cultural industry which under the regulation of censorship. From 1991 to 2000, there are all together 140 regulations and bills on the production, distribution, importation, exportation on the Chinese filmmaking.
According to the film management regulation, which does State Council issue in June 19, 1996,
"The nation issue film censorship system. Those films without passing the censorship by film censorship authority under the State Council Broadcasting Film and Television Administrative, is not allow to distribute, show, import and export."
"Film must be made by film production unit."
"The film production unit should be in charge of the censorship of the film during the stage from screenplay to finial products. The film production unit should report its screenplay to the film censorship authority to keep an achieve"
" After the production of the film, the film production unit should report to the film censorship authority, and pay the censorship fee. The film importation unit should report the film censorship authority, and pay the censorship fee."
Not only the normal distribution channel is under the regulation of censorship, but also t he new emerge sing distribution as Internet.
" All the broadcasting television and film programme distributed via all kinds of network in the land of China should report to National Broadcasting Television film Bureau to get admission."
"All the broadcasting television and film programme distributed via all kinds of network in the land of China should not use the title Net Broadcasting, Net Centre, Net TV etc. without admission."
That means independent films in some sense are illegal. In fact, there are some independent films in China. Some students of Beijing Film Institute made several short films. And there are some other amateur filmmaker used digital camera to produce, some even achieve fame and fortune. One typical example is Yang Tianyi and her documentary "The Old ", which won award in Tokyo Film Festival.
However, almost none of these films got the chance to pass the censorship. Some filmmakers never think of to report to censorship authority. The result is none of these films can be seen in
