Chapter OneIntroduction
1.1 Research background
At the first session of the 17th G20 Summit,President Xi Jinping(2022)(http://www.gov.cn/xinwen/2022-11/15/content_5727057.htm)made the remarks,hementioned that we should continue to uphold the WTO-centered multilateral tradingsystem,enhance trade and investment liberalization and facilitation,and promote anopen world economy.With the closer international trade exchanges,many enterprisesare facing a fierce competition environment.Language has a positive impact onnegotiations,trade exchanges and other work.Strengthening the efficiency ofbusiness negotiation and actively exploring how to use language correctly ineconomic trade are of great significance for promoting the success of enterprises andthe coordinated development of national trade economy.Trade activities such asbusiness negotiation are quite complex.The common goal of both parties in businessnegotiation is to achieve win-win results and form a harmonious and friendlyrelationship.During the negotiation,a harmonious atmosphere should be created andrelevant participants should be required to have the ability to use language.In thefield of international business,BELF is the world’s unwritten communication tool,known as“Business English as a language franca”,and has gradually attracted theattention of English for Special Purposes(ESP),business communication,pragmatics,cross-cultural communication and other research fields.Compared with ELF,BELFfocuses on business communication skills and strategies,and believes that the purposeof communication is to complete tasks and establish and maintain harmoniousinterpersonal relationships.
1.2 Significance of the research
The significance of this research could be divided into two aspects.One istheoretical significance,and the other is practical significance.The theoreticalsignificance of this study lies in that,on the one hand,this study provides evidence forthe strong explanatory power of Rapport Management theory and enriches theresearch on the real oral materials of business negotiations from the perspective ofRapport Management Theory.On the other hand,this study can expand the study ofmitigation in spoken discourse of Business English as a lingua franca and providereference for relevant research.In the past few decades,there have been many studieson mitigation,many of which focus on the importance of the gradation ofillocutionary forces as the basis for interpretation of mitigation,while other studiesfocus on such phenomena as vague language.Over time,more and more mitigationstudies have adopted a completely pragmatic perspective(Estellés&Albelda,2022).In the pragmatic study of mitigation,the characteristics of its use in different contextsare mostly discussed.In the business context,studies of mitigation strategies adopt thetheoretical research framework of Politeness Principle,Face Theory,Speech ActTheory,Adaptation Theory,etc.,covering business negotiation,sales,business lettersand other business scenarios,which are related to multiple interpersonal relationship management such as superior subordinate relationship,customer relationship,peercompetition relationship,etc.Therefore,the present study is conducted within theframework of interpersonal pragmatics,with th本论文由英语论文网提供整理,提供论文代写,英语论文代写,代写论文,代写英语论文,代写留学生论文,代写英文论文,留学生论文代写相关核心关键词搜索。
