There are much fewer CS studies concerning the switches particularly betweenEnglish and Chinese. In order to gain a general comprehension of studies onswitching between Chinese and English, the author uses CNKI, the Chinese versionof Google Scholar, as the source to collect relevant papers and then assess theprevious research on C-E CS in Chinese fashion magazines.

5.1 Types of CS from the expanded adaptation perspective
In this section, the collected C-E CS samples will be grouped into four types from thenewly-built adaptation perspective. Therefore, the analysis will be treated under fourheadings: linguistic reality, social conventions, psychological motivation, andcollective utility.
5.1.1 CS adapting to linguistic reality
Linguistic reality refers to the expressive method of CS completely forlanguage-internal reasons. In the case of C-E CS, the linguistic reality is reflected intwo aspects: the lexical gap as well as the differences in linguistic features betweenChinese and English. In this regard, the discussion here will unfold through twosub-categories: adaptation to the lexical gap as well as adaptation to linguistic featuresof Chinese and English.
