I. Research background
 As everyone knows, the title of a book is highly generalized in content, title is one of the most essential components of a book. It is the “eye” of the book, which appeals readers, and implies, maybe, the theme of the story that the book tells, or what kind of book it is. A successful translation of a book title is a wonderful beginning, and in a sense, a perfect result as well. Thus book’s title translation is quite important in my opinion. Chinese literature has played an important role in world’s culture for a long term. A lot of Chinese masterpieces had been translated into English hundreds years ago. However, many translated titles of Chinese masterpieces are usually far away from the original meaning due to the difficulties in translation of book’s title, as well as the misunderstanding of Chinese culture by some overseas translators. This is, of course, not good for the spreading of Chinese culture.
 1.1 Function of Book Titles
   Book title is the soul of the book. It is not only an inseparable part but also an important part of the book for it is the summary of the book and it should contain the most information with fewest words. The contact between the reader and the book, first and foremost, is the title. What functions should the titles perform? Or what should be taken into consideration when designing of a title for book? From the author's point of view, as far as the content is concerned, a title should set the tone of the writing and convey information about what he/she is going to write about and can go smoothly on. And the form of a title must contain something that attract the readers. Writings are for and only for the readers. It is the readership that reveals whether the writing is successful of not. So when designing a title, the author has to take the reader's approval into consideration. On the other hand, the potential readers may hope that he/she can make a decision whether of not to go on to read the whole book just by having a look at the title. There are two kinds of readers, reading out of necessity and reading out of interests. For the literary books that theses will focus on, the potential readers are supposed to choose books only out of interest. So the title is of great importance and it must have some appeal to the potential readers. In such an era that eyeball economy and superficial reading prevail. whether the book title is eye-catching, to great extent affects the selling and the influence of the book. As a matter of fact many readers would decide to buy or not to buy a book just because of the title. Therefore, the author as well as the publisher attaches great importance to the book title. No wonder a publisher once said:" if the book title is not good enough, we would rather not publish the book."
 1.2 The current situation in book’s title translation
 At present, more and more scholars have realized the difficulty and importance of title translation of a book, and there are many academic articles that have been written on it. For example, a famous scholar called Zhang JinYan has issued an article named The Degree in Title’s Translation in Journal of Foreign Language College of Shan Dong Normal University.
