In the meantime, the translator has read the text more than three times to understand the topic and purport of the text and master its emotional tone. Besides, some other works of the writer were also read to give the translator insight into the text. After doing this, the translator read it another several times to analyze the linguistic feature of the text to lay a foundation for later translation practice. Besides, considering the historical theme of the source text, the translator collected many knowledge and terms of Chinese history to help understand the text and prepare for translation. 2.2 While-translation Process

After comprehending the source text, the translator found that several difficulties lie in the translation practice, such as culture-loaded words, polysemes, classical Chinese and run-on sentences, parallelism, and metaphor. 

Firstly, the source text is rich in culture-loaded words as an informative text whose topic is politics and education in ancient China. Besides, through the long history, many words have presented different meanings from that in ancient times. To translate these words and phrases accurately, the translator first searched them on websites such as Handian and Bing for detailed information so that the translator could understand them and select proper English expressions to translate them. The translated parallel text, Merits and Demerits of Political Systems in Dynastic China (2020), which Zhang Siying translated, also contributes to the translation practice. What’s more, the translator also consulted many books on translation theories and relevant papers to choose appropriate translation methods. 

Secondly, the source text quotes many classical Chinese sayings which embody Chinese values and culture, making it difficult to translate. For these sentences, the translator looked up the paraphrasis of the sentences to understand them first and translate them in her opinion, and then referred to available or official translations on the Internet. After analyzing the established translations of scholars and the author’s translation, the translator revised her translation to achieve the best translation effect.
