Adequate pre-translation preparation lays a solid foundation for the translation task.There are three steps in this stage.The first step is to analyze the source text so that thelexical,syntactic and discourse features of the text could be fully grasped.The second stepis referring to parallel texts.The rational use of parallel texts could not only providereference for the revision of the translation,but also standardize the choice of words andsentences in the translation,so as to achieve the purpose of publicity and communication.The third step is to establish the term list to keep the consistency of words.

2.1.1 Source Text Analysis

One cannot start translating immediately after receiving the translation materials.Text analysis is the understanding of the original text,which is the beginning of translation(Newmark,2001).First of all,one needs to read the source text carefully and form apreliminary perception and judgment on the structure and general content of the source text,thus determining appropriate translation methods.

The source text is the company’s automobile maintenance manual,which involvesseven chapters.The translation text is part of Chapter 5,Engine Control Systems,whichprovides catalyst monitoring,misfire monitoring,evaporative system monitoring,fuelsystem monitoring,engine cooling system monitoring,and cold start emission reductionstrategy monitoring.Each section contains several smaller units.The text contains manygraphics and tables to clearly show the disassembly and assembly process or precautions ofcomponents,rather than using simple words to describe the complex operation process.The combination of pictures and texts could vividly convey the information of themaintenance manual to the technicians,thereby assisting them in grasping the necessaryinformation as quickly as possible.However,it is far from being able to capture thecharacteristics of the text only by perceiving the text as a whole.Next,this paper willanalyze the features of the text from the aspects of vocabulary,syntax,and discourse.

2.2 While-translation

Orderly time control enables the translation task to be completed in time.Therefore,itis important to formulate a detailed task list and complete daily translation task as required.At the same time,the translator must also strive to overcome the difficulties encountered intranslation and use various translation techniques to reproduce the information and contentof the original text to the greatest extent.

2.2.1 Time Control

The project schedule provides a scientific and reasonable basis for theimplementation of the project,thus ensuring that the project could be completed in time.The translation plan is formulated after the supervisor confirming the feasibility of the text,and the overall process can be roughly summarized into three main stages:preparation,translation,and correction.
