It can effectively relieve the psychological pressure ofinterpreters and make the whole translation process more accurate, rapid and effective.Business interpreters may not have to be experts in a certain field, but the basic contentof business knowledge is a must to learn. For example, a business interpreter must know something about agricultural policies and anti-dumping related to WTO, intellectualproperty rights and technical barriers related to trade and most-favored-nation treatmentrelated to the macro-economic environment.

Chapter Two Theoretical Framework and Literature Review

2.1 Interpretive Theory of Translation

There has been a long time during which translation studies were deeplyinfluenced by linguistics, with the characteristics of focusing on the translated text(object) instead of the interpreter (subject). In the 1960s, translation studies instructuralist linguistics rose. According to the viewpoint of structuralist language, themeaning of the text is determined by words and syntactic structure. Influenced by thisconcept, translation researchers at the time often paid too much attention to the structureof the language and regarded translation as the simple conversion between differentlanguages. Therefore, translation studies focused on lexical and grammaticalcomparison between the source and the target language. However, during this period,professional interpreter Jean Herbert who studied the interpretation process regardedinterpretation as a three-step process including understanding, conversion andexpression, but his research still focused on language conversion and interpretationskills. No research has been conducted on the psychology of interpreters. Afterwards,Julius Wirl, a Greman researcher studied the translator's psychological process andcame up with the concept of detachment from the source language. He believed thatgetting rid of the linguistic form of the source language was the essence of thetranslation process (张吉良 2011). In 1962, based on her rich interpretation experience,Seleskovitch, a French professional interpreter put forward a brand-new theory, namely,interpretation was not a conversion between different languages but a dynamicpsychological process. It was a communicative act with comprehension and expression of meaning as its core. In 1968, the publication of the paper “International ConferenceInterpreters-Language and Communication” marked the establishment of theInterpretive Theory and laid a solid foundation for its further development. In 1978,Seleskovitch put forward the triangle model of interpretation which included threeaspects: speech perception, discarding the linguistic form of language to retain meaning,and expressing the meaning through the target language.
