5.1.1 Translation and editing
As the name suggests, translation and editing means a mixture of edition andtranslation, referring to a translation activity based on editing. To meet the specificrequirements of target readers, one or more original works should be processed firstand translated second. As regards editing translation methods, there are macro andmicro differences. The micro approaches mainly consist of extracting, combining,generalizing, reordering and paraphrasing, while the macro approaches includeintra-paragraph, inter-paragraph, intra-text, inter-text, intra-book and inter-bookediting translation (Huang 2002). There are generally seven principles governing translation and editing: editability before translation, clarity of theme, concentrationof materials, typicality of materials, appropriateness of details, adjustment ofstructure and rationality of length. The original text is processed and organized bymeans of translation and editing so as to seek perfection and delicacy on one handand be accepted by target readers better on other hand.

CHAPTER SIXCONCLUSION
6.1 Major findings
This thesis presents a new perspective—translation variation theory—on thetranslation study of banking CSR reporting in Chinese context. The author selectsCSR reports between 2018 and 2019 from top 12 Chinese banks as the data source.The research findings are listed below in answer to the research questions.
Q1: What are specific and linguistic features of Chinese banking CSR reports?
In order to dig out the appropriate translation variation strategies applied to the CSRreports, this thesis first maps out the specific and linguistic features of Chinesebanking CSR reports based on the key elements and language aspects. The specificfeatures of banking CSR reports generally involve: leaders’ message, corporateprofile, mission and value statements, social responsibility management; CSRcommitments or engagement with stakeholders which deals with summaries of keyfacts and figures, as well as vivid graphs and tables; assurance statements, GRIindexes, as well as interviews and surveys.
After reviewing 23 pairs of banking CSR reports, this study identifies thelinguistic features from lexical and syntactic aspects. On the lexical level, numeralabbreviations with Chinese characteristics, such as “三位一体”, “五个中心” and“四大品牌”, are often seen in the banking social reports. They can be divided intorelative and absolute abbreviations. The former heavily depends on the context, as isshown in the above examples. The latter are less dependent on the context, and one good example is “一带一路” known to the public. Moreover, intensifiers enhancingthe emphasis effects also account for a large part in these reports. These intensifiersare mainly manifested as modal verbs modifying verbs with emotion or attitude so asto enhance the feeling of expression. There are numerous examples of modal adverbssuch as “大力发展”, “积极支持” and “坚定不移地支持”. Category words are thosesummarizing words of the same class or attribute, e.g., “发展过程” and “精神风貌”.When they are completely rendered into English expressions, it is easy to give rise toredundancy.
