Chinese  Cultural  Industry  New  Year  Forum  is  a  high  level  international  academic forum  sponsored  by  Peking  University.  Meanwhile,  it  is  strongly  supported  by  the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China (MCPRC), General Administration of  Press  and  Publication  of  the  People’s  Republic  of  China,  State  Administration  of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT), and Beijing Municipal Commission of Education. 

The New Year Forum has been held for seven sessions since its inception in 2003, to promote  exchanges  and  communications  among  the  government,  enterprises,  and academia  in  the  field  of  cultural  industry,  pursuing  the  development  concept  of  “the integration of academia and reality, and the innovation of strategy and development.” It is also  committed  to  the  interactive  development  of  momentous  industrial  policies, cutting-edge theories, and industrial practices. 

The  practice  is  to  interpret  three  speeches  from  Chinese  to  English.  The  author selected three speeches at the forum as the material. The first speech is the Several Issues Concerning  the  High-quality  Development  of  the  Cultural  Industry  provided  by  Li Fengliang. His speech covers the current status of the cultural industry and the emerging industries.  The  second  one  is  Symbols  and  Connotation  of  Aesthetic  Cultural  Creation from  Li  Xiangmin.  In  his  lecture,  the  speaker  stresses  the  positive  role  of  the  spiritual content of cultural industry except for economic benefit. The final lecture is Atmospheric Aesthetics  and  Cultural  Phantom  given  by  Peng  Feng.  Peng  describes  the  abstract concept  of  art  and  culture  from  a  unique  perspective.  Each  of  these  three  is approximately 30 minutes long, and the total duration reaches about one and a half hours.

2.2 Features of the Task

The reason for choosing three lectures as materials for the practice is that each of the  three  has  distinct  characteristics  and  different  formats  respectively.  Distinct  from formal  speeches,  apart  from  the  content  of  the  speech,  the  speakers  also  extend  much other related content to repeatedly argue their point of view, which is highly random.
