5.1.1 Comprehending the Words

Chinese  features  extensive  and  profound,  which  is  embodied  in  the  multiple meanings  of  words.  Incomplete  comprehension  of  words  may  lead  to  changes  in meanings. Therefore the comprehension of words shows great significance.

Case  1:我们的动漫超过十万分钟，可拿到网络上面，拿到电视台上面放的只有四万分钟三万分钟，那么显然的剩下的那些不是我们高质量发展所需要的一些底部。

Interpretation:  The  total duration of our cartoon can reach over 100,000 minutes  but  only  30,000  to  40,000  can  be  played  in  media.  Obviously,  the  rest are not the foundation for high-quality development.

  “底部”  is  a  word  with  Chinese  characteristics.  It  connotes  ambiguity  to  interpret  as “the bottom parts”. Throughout the internal tools, the author indicated that “底部” here means  “基础”. The source text has  mentioned that the total duration  is  long, but only  a fraction of it can be played in media. The rest of the cartoon did not reach the standard of high-quality development. Thus “底部” should be interpreted as “foundation”.

Chapter Six Conclusion

6.1 Interpreter’s Reflections

First  of  all,  through  the  analysis  of  the  CEA  framework,  the  author  has  a  new understanding  of  Chinglish  from  the  three  aspects  of  comprehension,  expression  and adaption.  A  new  framework  was  constructed  to  solve  the  problem  of  Chinglish  with various  solving  methods.  In terms  of  expression,  the  author  should  pay  attention  to the meaning  of  the  source text  and  the  logic  of  the  connotation.  Meanwhile,  the  applicable conversion between the source language and the target language is achieved by means of explanation, adaptation and omission.

The  second  point  is  that  the  author  also  discovered  the  importance  of comprehension in the process of interpreting. The problem of Chinglish expression is not only  manifested  as  an  inauthentic  expression.  In a  sense,  Chinglish  issues  are  rooted  in inadequate understanding and specifically manifest as ambiguity.
