摘要:本文是一篇英语翻译论文,笔者认为在交替传译中,口译的质量很大程度上取决于口译员笔记的质量。笔记应该简单、快速、清晰,并且不应该耗尽口译员的大量认知资源。在交替传译的第一阶段,口译员的大部分精力应该集中在积极倾听说话者的声音上。要做到这一点,口译员必须开发一个他们非常熟悉的笔记系统,并且几乎可以下意识地实现。

Chapter 2 Summary of the “2019 China (Shenzhen) ITSummit” Mock Conference


2.1 Mock Conference Overview

This mock conference case study analysis investigates the author’s Chinese toEnglish interpretation of Zhu Min’s presentation at the “2019 China (Shenzhen) ITSummit.” The “2019 China (Shenzhen) IT Summit” was originally held on March 30thandMarch 31stof 2019. In his presentation, Zhu Min spoke about three major economicchallenges that the world is facing and how artificial intelligence can aid in overcomingthese challenges. The mock conference was held on April 30, 2020.

2.1.1 Mock Conference Format

The format of the mock conference was unique in that it was held online. Given theoutbreak of COVID-19, attendees of the mock conference were unable to meet in personand therefore it was held via web conference using the online meeting platform, Zoom. Atthe time of the mock conference, the interpreter had already attended roughly two monthsof online interpreting classes using Zoom and was therefore familiar with the platform. It isworth noting that the mock conference was carried out smoothly and the interpreter did notexperience any significant setbacks due to technical difficulties.

2.2 Overview of Mock Conference Interpretation and Notes

Over the past two years of professional interpreter training, the author hascontinuously been faced with, and has overcome, challenges associated with consecutiveinterpreting. Most recently, the author has been confronted with the challenge ofdeveloping an improved note-taking system. In this section, the author will examine theinterpreting errors made throughout the mock conference and the note-taking inefficiencieswhich caused them.

The interpreter made a series of common mistakes throughout Zhu Min’spresentation. While the speaker’s primary message was understood by the interpreter andsuccessfully portrayed in the interpretation, errors were frequently made which impactedthe meaning of the information within each of Zhu Min’s main points.
