摘要:本文是一篇英语翻译论文,笔者认为在交替传译中,口译的质量很大程度上取决于口译员笔记的质量。笔记应该简单、快速、清晰,并且不应该耗尽口译员的大量认知资源。在交替传译的第一阶段,口译员的大部分精力应该集中在积极倾听说话者的声音上。要做到这一点,口译员必须开发一个他们非常熟悉的笔记系统,并且几乎可以下意识地实现。

quality of notes taken by the interpreter. Notes should be taken simply,quickly, clearly, and should not exhaust a significant amount of the interpreter’s cognitiveresources. A bulk of an interpreter’s effort during the first phase of consecutive interpretingshould be directed towards actively listening to the speaker. For this to be possible,interpreters must develop a note-taking system which they are extremely familiar with andcan implement almost subconsciously. This is a process which requires many hours ofpractice, analysis, and trial and error. Even professional interpreters are required tocontinuously sharpen and refine their note-taking skills throughout their careers. However,no matter how veteran the interpreter or how efficient the note-taking system, the risk ofinterpreting errors as the result of note-taking mistakes always lingers. This paper providesan investigation into several common note-taking mistakes and their resultinginterpretation errors. As a training interpreter, the author hopes that the findings from thisanalysis can serve as a reference and provide insight to other interpreters in training.

The author has provided a case study analysis consisting of nine examples from the“2019 China (Shenzhen) IT Summit” mock conference interpretation. Each examplecontains multiple interpreting errors caused by multiple corresponding note-takingmistakes. There are three common interpreting errors among the examples: missinginformation, added information, and misrepresented logic. These three errors were each theresult of one or more of the five common note-taking inefficiencies examined: excessivenotes, missing links, lack of effective symbols, unclear structure, and misleading symbols.
