摘要:本文是一篇英语翻译论文,笔者认为在翻译语言演变的过程中,译者首先对英汉名词化现象有了全面的了解,并在朗格认知理论的指导下,从结构转换和语义转换的角度对这一语言现象进行了研究,通过对从语言演变和相关论文中收集的例子中的名词化现象进行解释,译者采用相应的翻译方法来处理在翻译实践中遇到的问题。

mphasizes the consistence of the structures betweensource language and target language, by Vladimir Nabokov (1975), a RussianAmerican writer and translator. Nominalization, as a pervasive linguistic phenomenon, can be found in both Chinese and English with the same structure and meaning. Inspite of different language families, there are overlaps in terms of culture andlinguistic structure in both languages, which provides the possibility of equivalenttranslation.

Example 20ST : Although Müller himself saw the true beginning of languages as a saltation, just as unexplainable by scientific means or Darwinian argument as the origin of lifeitself, he did have his own theory.

TT: 尽管穆勒本人认为语言真正的起源是一种突变,就像生命的起源一样,无法用科学手段或达尔文提出的观点来解释,但是他的确有自己的理论。

Conclusion

Major Findings

Based on the cultural foundation of different nations, languages of variouscountries own distinctive characteristics, at the same time, the structures ofnominalization in different languages and the frequency of their occurrence vary a lot. However, as one of the most pervasive phenomenon in human languages, somecommonalities of nominalization guarantee the premise for the study ofnominalization in different languages. As a matter of fact, the comprehensiveunderstanding on nominalization and a smooth process of translating are guaranteedby exploring nominalization on both structural and semantic level.

The study of nominalization in structural level is the most basic and importantstep. First of all, according to the study in three chapters, the author summarizes thesimilarities and differences between English and Chinese nominalization. To be morespecific, English nominalization is more abundant, which is caused by the degree ofthe lexicalization in English. Many words in English change their forms by addingaffixes, or adding prepositions to construct noun phrases, while Chinese, as a kind ofhieroglyph, has no such transfer mechanism. In spite of this, there are manysimilarities in these two languages, for instance, ‘de’ in Chinese and ‘of’ in English are the linguistic markers of nominalization, representing an affiliation betweensubject and object. In addition, problems related to nominalization in structural levelappear in functions of nominalization, embodying the effects of nominalization indiscourse.

Nevertheless, it is not enough to understand the nominalization only from theperspective of structure. Research on semantic level is also indispensable, since itcomplements the problems involved in structural changes, such as the change ofmeaning. Semantic cognition deconstructs the process of noun generation, that is,verbs or verbal structures change all the time, showing different state in each step, andthey are finally limited by the boundary of time and space. According to the specificrequirements of the context, different aspects of the nature are highlighted, verbs orverbal structures ultimately transfer into nominalization.
